You are so right, AO.

I didn’t even bring up the fact that, whatever an employee pays for payroll taxes, their employer has to match it – plus pay for other things on top of that – like unemployment, workmen’s compensation, and a variety of other thing. It’s amazing that any small business ever survives.

OK. This just sent me off the deep end. This whole tax situation is an outrage. I am constantly outraged by it. Politicians never ‘break it down’ beyond the sound bites. Don’t even get me started on the estate tax. Stuff purchased with after tax dollars is then heavily taxed. The government should get their hands out of the pockets of citizens in general, particularly productive citizens. And, the state makes businesses their unpaid tax collectors via the sales tax. Taxes and the bloody FICA employer ‘match’ which is higher than what the actual employee pays for him or herself are the biggest ‘entitlements’ in place. I don’t feel the government should be entitled to a cent more from an individual than it costs to take care of that individual and nobody can tell me how much that is. I’d really like to know what my ‘fair share’ is. Ok, I need to stop rambling so I can generate some revenue for our government. And another thing: there’d be a real revolution happening if the payroll witholding system ended and individuals had to write a check each week to the various tax entities–people a lot of times aren’t thinking about how much they’re paying because it’s automatic. Ok I’m really shutting up now because this topic is a dangerous one for me. Outraged. Enraged.

I completely agree with your description on Melissa Loo. I just met her at the United Club terminal E, and I’m taken by her energy, humor, and sense of “customer service.” I’ll definitely be back!
